Paralegal / Prospect Assessor

Location: Caerphilly, South Wales

TSR Legal is working with an established legal services organisation to appoint a Paralegal / Prospect Assessor to join its team in Caerphilly.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in employment law, offering the chance to develop specialist legal knowledge, gain hands-on experience and progress within a supportive legal environment.

Initially, the role will focus on reviewing new employment law claims, assessing their prospects of success and providing clear, evidence-based recommendations. You will receive structured training, ongoing supervision and guidance through a dedicated development programme, helping you build the confidence and technical skills required to take on greater responsibility.

For the right candidate, this position offers a genuine pathway from initial claim assessment into full case management and employment law litigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review newly referred employment law claims and assess their prospects of success against the available evidence, client instructions and relevant legal principles.
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 25 pre-litigation and/or litigated employment matters.
  • Prepare clear, accurate and well-reasoned written assessments, explaining the strengths, weaknesses and potential risks of each claim.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, insurers and other relevant parties, ensuring expectations and next steps are clearly explained.
  • Translate legal terminology and procedures into practical, accessible advice for clients.
  • Assess claim viability in line with relevant legal expenses insurance requirements, internal procedures and service standards.
  • Identify potential concerns relating to evidence, liability, fraud, exaggeration or other risks, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Apply sound commercial judgement when evaluating claims and making recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure enquiries and outstanding issues are followed through promptly.
  • Work towards agreed performance targets, service levels and quality standards without compromising client care.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute positively to the wider team.
  • Participate fully in the structured training programme, applying feedback and developing your technical knowledge.
  • Take increasing ownership of your work as your experience and confidence grow.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and analytical individual who is keen to develop their expertise in employment law and build a career within the legal sector.

You will ideally bring:

  • A law degree, relevant legal qualification or practical experience within a legal environment.
  • A genuine interest in employment law, litigation and the assessment of legal claims.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and logically.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to review evidence, identify relevant issues and assess potential risks.
  • A professional and empathetic approach to client communication, particularly when dealing with sensitive employment matters.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • The confidence to work independently while recognising when guidance or escalation is needed.
  • A commercially minded approach and an understanding of the importance of balancing client outcomes, risk and business requirements.
  • Resilience, adaptability and a willingness to learn.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Teams.

Previous experience assessing legal claims or working with legal expenses insurance would be advantageous, although candidates with relevant transferable skills and a strong interest in employment law are encouraged to apply.

Training and Career Progression

A key feature of this opportunity is the structured training and development programme.

You will receive support from experienced colleagues while developing your understanding of employment law, prospects assessment, litigation processes and case management.

As your technical knowledge and experience progress, there will be opportunities to take on more complex matters and greater responsibility for managing cases from initial assessment through to conclusion.

The organisation also supports continued professional development, with potential opportunities to pursue further legal qualifications and progress within the wider legal team.

This role would suit someone who is motivated to learn, receptive to feedback and keen to establish themselves as a capable employment law professional.

The Organisation

You will be joining an established legal services business committed to providing accessible, high-quality legal support to individuals and businesses.

The team works across a range of legal services, including matters supported through legal expenses insurance, and places importance on client care, sound legal decision-making and effective risk management.

The working environment offers the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, develop specialist knowledge and contribute to a collaborative team.

Why Apply?

  • A structured training and development programme.
  • An opportunity to specialise in employment law.
  • A clear development pathway towards full case-handling responsibilities.
  • Exposure to a varied range of employment law claims.
  • Supportive colleagues and ongoing technical guidance.
  • Opportunities for further qualifications and career progression.
  • The chance to develop both your legal expertise and commercial awareness.
