Coming into the New Year can be an ideal time to start looking for a fresh start in the legal sector.

Looking at the developments over the last quarter, 2017 will be no different, as legal professionals get to soak up and review the previous year and evaluate if they really are on the right track.

In a survey performed by Indeed, 30% of UK workers are thinking of making a career change and there may be many motivations for leaving including: a higher salary, career progression, new location or a change in job title.

January Boom

From our experience job searches go through the roof in early January. With enough time off to redraft their CVs, download and complete application forms – legal professionals are raring to go when it comes to looking for pastures new.

The slight drop off in applications for the festivities is countered with a boom in applications shortly after.

Indeed, currently the largest job site in the world suggests that in the very last week of December and the first week of January, job applications surge by 33% in comparison to the rest of the year.

From a legal recruitment perspective, we understand how important it is to stay on top of our job adverts and our client’s needs in order to attract the right candidates during this abundant time.

This is why we place so much emphasis on building relationships with clients and candidates in the months leading up to this busy period so that we’re in the best position to bridge the gap between firms and legal professionals.

Matching Up

With economic recovery in full flow (even with the temporary Brexit blip) there will no doubt continue to be a demand for quality legal professionals with relevant experience in the New Year.

This will be an exciting time for both candidates and recruiters as the matching process begins.

That’s why if you’re a client or legal professional and you’re thinking about changing your career over the Christmas period, it’s important that you take action as soon as possible.

Forwarding your CV for a legal role or posting your legal job before the post-Christmas boom can put you in a much better and controlled position to choose the right role or the right candidate.
